ACOM 06AT antenna tuner 1.8-30 MHz + 6m

The ACOM 06AT is an indoor automatic tuner designed specifically for operation with Acom's transistor PAs. In such a combination power amplifier and tuner form a perfect team for very comfortable automatic operation at high power.

The ACOM 06AT tuner is operated either locally in the shack or remotely at a distance of up to 100m indoors. This reduces the losses, because not the feed line to the antenna is tuned, but only the antenna and its relatively short feed line from the tuner itself. The control and supply is done completely by a coaxial cable, no further line to the tuner is necessary. All Acom transistor power amplifiers, i.e. the ACOM 1200S, ACOM 600S etc. are used for powering and control. The frequency range covers the whole shortwave from 1.8 to 30 MHz as well as the 6m band from 50-54 MHz. Maximum powers of up to 1200 W are possible, depending on the adaptation of the antenna.

A maximum of four antennas can be connected to the tuner. The selection of the respective antenna is done either manually via the control on the PA or automatically based on the frequency. All inputs are statically double protected against charging and lightning strikes in the vicinity. The antenna connectors can also be switched to "bypass" to use an antenna directly, without a tuner. The tuning process of the ACOM 06AT tuner is automatic and transparent to the user. It takes a maximum of 5 seconds and usually no more than 2-3 seconds. Once tuning settings have been found, they are stored permanently; for stored antenna/frequency combinations, the tuning process takes less than half a second. Settings stored in this way can also be exported to a computer and played back later. Up to 1000 memory positions are available. If the PA and the transceiver are connected via CAT interface (and the PA can thus always track the operating frequency), the tuner follows the set frequency and selects matching and antenna connection as well, without having to transmit. This CAT connection is optional, it is not needed for fully automatic operation.

The tuner offers various protection circuits and thus also protects the power amplifier. Checked are supply voltage, polarity, too high RF voltage, RF current, reflected power, input power, temperature and much more. If the SWR is too bad, the tuner signals the error condition and the PA adjusts the transmit power down. At full power mismatches up to 3:1 can be compensated, even worse matched antennas can be used in individual cases up to an SWR of 10:1, but then operation is only possible at strongly reduced power. During the tuning process the input SWR of the 06AT tuner never rises above 2:1, as soon as a match is found the input SWR to the power amplifier is not higher than 1.5:1. The current operating status of the tuner is shown on the display of the PA, so you always have full control over the entire antenna system including the power amplifier.
