Technical description

The EAntenna Cobweb antenna is a lightweight and quick to set up antenna for portable operation according to G3TPW.

The Cobweb antenna operates on the five upper shortwave bands 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10m. The five folded dipoles are fed via a common balun, only one feed line is required. The arrangement of the elements to each other and the ground effect results in a small gain compared to a dipole.

The antenna is designed for a power up to 500W. The usable 2:1 SWR bandwidth covers a large part of the respective band. The SWR minimum can be shifted as needed by changing the length of the dipoles. The unfolding of the dipoles results in very compact dimensions of about 280 x 280cm. This also makes the wind area relatively small, the Cobweb antenna is designed for wind speeds up to 160 km/h.

The base plate and the balun carrier are made of aluminum, the carriers for the dipoles are made of GRP. The connection is a PL socket.

Gain when installed 10m above ground.

Application description

The weight of the COBWEB is only 4.8 kg, so this antenna can be set up easily by one person. As mast a relatively light aluminum mast is sufficient. This (and the small transport size of 11 x 11 x 100cm) makes this antenna perfect for fielddays, vacations and other portable activities.

The antenna is available with a power handling of 500 W or 3000 W.

EAntenna was founded by Rodrigo (EA7JX) with the aim to build high performance antennas for shortwave and VHF/UHF, which at the same time meet very high quality standards but still remain affordable. WiMo took over EAntenna in 2017, the production was moved to Herxheim, Rod moved with his family and still provides good quality - now at WiMo.
