Technical description

Actually, only antennas whose length is large compared to the wavelength of the operating band are called "long-wire" antennas. This is only partly the case with these Hari long-wire antennas, in order to keep the length in a manageable size. Nevertheless, the function of this antenna is equivalent to that of a long wire.

The high feedpoint resistance of 400 to 800 ohms is transformed to about 50 ohms by a 1:10 balun. The exact matching is finally achieved with a tuner, i.e. in most cases a matchbox is necessary when using these antennas. The tuner built into many transceivers is usually sufficient.

The maximum power handling is determined by the balun, it is 200 W. The steel wire used is coated with plastic and can withstand high tensile loads. An insulator is included in the scope of delivery. For installation, a non-conductive guy wire is still required on each side.

Application description

The advantage of the long-wire antenna is its versatile installation options. When hung straight, the antenna has a noticeable directivity in the direction of the wire. If space is limited, however, the long-wire can also be hung as an open square, as an L-antenna, as "inverted-vee" etc. In these cases, the antenna has little directivity, but works more as an omnidirectional antenna.

In most cases, a tuner is necessary for operation; the tuner built into many transceivers is usually sufficient. In borderline cases, it can be helpful to lay a short counterweight. The length of the feed line does not matter, but if there are common mode currents, a choke installed behind the balun will help.
