  • Larger bandwidth
  • 200 or 1000 W
  • Good SWR

Supply Scope

  • Hari Windom Antenna
  • Balun
  • Isolators

Technical description

The Windom antenna is a dipole where the balun is not in the middle but slightly offset. In some cases, this allows for a more favourable suspension and a shorter feed line (less weight!) because the balun is closer to the house.

The Windom antenna can only be used for bands that are in harmony with each other, i.e. for 160/80/40/20/17/12/10m. The lowest (longest) band is determined by the length of the antenna.  The SWR is good for all bands, usually no tuner is needed. Due to the high footpoint impedance, a 1:6 balun with PL socket is used. Construction with tensile steel wire with transparent plastic sheathing. Max. permissible transmitting power either 200 or 1000 W.

Application description

The Windom (also called "OCF", Off Center Fed) antenna is one of the most popular wire antennas for radio amateurs. The reason is the larger bandwidth compared to blocking circuit dipoles. The asymmetrical arrangement of the dipole results in very favourable installation possibilities in some situations. The windom antenna can also be hung as a sloper or angled.

Usually no tuner is needed for operation, the SWR is very good over a wide bandwidth range. Due to the high footpoint impedance, cladding waves can more easily occur in the coaxial cable, so the use of a cladding wave blocker (choke) is recommended. The length of the feed line (50 Ohm coaxial cable) is irrelevant.
