Technical description

The 162 MHz AIS directional antennas are vertically polarized LFA yagis for the 161.5 - 162.5 MHz frequency range with low smoke level.

All three models are based on extensive simulations and calculations, high quality materials are used in manufacturing, ensuring durability and high reliability. Even adverse weather conditions and wind speeds of over 200 km/h are no problem for these professional antennas.

The connection is made by means of an N jack with an input impedance of 50 ohms. The maximum permissible transmitting power is 5 kW.

Application description

The AIS system was developed, among other things, to improve safety in shipping. The frequencies 161.975 and 162.025 MHZ (corresponding to marine radio channels 87B and 88B) are used.

The data transmitted includes, for example, the IMO number, ship name and call sign, position, course and speed, and navigational status. The evaluation of the received AIS traffic information is performed by an AIS receiver.

InnovAntennes' LFA Yagis are specially designed for professional use at coastal radio stations, for use with AIS repeaters and for suppliers of AIS systems. Of course, they are also ideal for anyone who would like to enter the exciting and fascinating world of AIS reception, or take their existing equipment to the next level.

InnovAntennas (UK) was founded in 2010 by Justin Johnson, G0KSC. Justin is a well-known antenna designer and inventor of the LFA (Loop Fed Yagi), OP-DES (Opposing Phase Driven Element System) Yagi and the OWL (Optimised Wideband Low impedance) Yagi. In addition to running the company, Justin presents at antenna forums around the world, including regular participation in the Dayton Hamvention Antenna Forum and contributing to the pages of the ARRL Antenna Book. The production and exclusive distribution of the antennas has been largely outsourced to WiMo (Germany) since 2019.
