Technical description

Most shortened vertical radiators use traps or coils to achieve the matching required by a modern transceiver. These components result in losses and the power is converted to heat.

The InnovAntennas VertiGO radiates on all bands along its entire length. Ground radials are needed for efficient operation, the more the better.

With a tuner at the base of the antenna (where it best belongs), the antenna becomes usable on all specified bands without the coaxial cable radiating.

Application description

The VertiGO vertical antennas from InnovAntennas are available in three different versions:

  • 33V: 7 - 21.5 MHz (tuner operation).
The height of the extended antenna is 10m, making it the smallest and most inconspicuous of the 3 antennas. The tube diameters range from 50mm at the bottom to 13mm at the very top, in nine segments. When fed directly, this antenna is resonant at 40 and 15m.  The antenna can be set up freestanding, without bracing. Even on the bands 12, 10 and 6m operation is still possible, but due to the steep radiation no longer suitable for DX.

  • 43V: 5 - 18.5 MHz (tuner operation)
The antenna with an extended length of 13m consists of 14 segments with tube diameters from 60mm (bottom) to 6mm (top). When fed directly, this antenna is resonant at 40 and 15m. The antenna can be set up free standing, guyed in one or two planes is recommended. The 13m high '43V' is the middle size of the three antennas with the same operating principle, and thus still quite inconspicuous. It is suitable for the bands from 60 to 17m. Even on the bands 15 to 6m operation is still possible, but due to the steep radiation it is no longer suitable for DX.

  • 66V: 3.5 to 18.5 MHz (tuner operation)
The 20m high '66V' is the largest of the three antennas with the same operating principle. It can be used from 80m to 17m, with limited efficiency even beyond. The construction is extremely robust, the VertiGO 66V uses tube diameters from 75mm at the bottom to 10mm at the very top, in 15 segments. The antenna should be braced on at least two, better three levels. Even on the bands 15, to 6m operation is still possible, but due to the steep radiation no longer suitable for DX.

InnovAntennas (UK) was founded in 2010 by Justin Johnson, G0KSC. Justin is a well-known antenna developer and inventor of the LFA (Loop Fed Yagi), OP-DES (Opposing Phase Driven Element System) Yagi and the OWL (Optimised Wideband Low impedance) Yagi. In addition to running the company, Justin presents at antenna forums around the world, including regular participation in the Dayton Hamvention Antenna Forum and contributing to the pages of the ARRL Antenna Book. The production and exclusive distribution of the antennas has been largely outsourced to WiMo (Germany) since 2019.
