Technical description

The mAT-50 is the latest tuner for long wires (5 - 1500 Ohm) from a length of 2.50 meters from the manufacturer maT. The system consists of 2 components: The actual tuner, which is designed for outdoor operation, and a controller for indoor use, which is specific for the device. Both units are only connected by a 50-Ohm coaxial cable. The mAT-50 does not need a separate control line, the power supply of the tuner is controlled by the controller. Thanks to "Power-Off-Hold" technology, the tuner is only supplied with power during the tuning process, after which the power supply is interrupted again by the coupler. This effectively prevents the generation of interference radiation, which would have a negative effect on reception. Since the tuner has a magnetic relay with self-holding, it can maintain its current state even in the event of a power failure. 16000 memory locations guarantee extremely short tuning times of 0.1 seconds. A tuning operation on frequencies that have not been stored is completed in a maximum of 5 seconds.

The compact and robust housing of the tuner (20 x 13 x 4.5 cm) is made of milled aluminum parts.

Load capacity:

SSB/CW: 0.1 - 120W

6m: 100W

PSK/Digital modes: 30W

Application description

The controller of the mAT-50 is available for devices from Yaesu, Icom and Kenwood, the tuner unit is always identical. Big advantage: If you change to a radio from another manufacturer (or already own radios from different manufacturers), there is no need to buy a new tuner. Only the controller has to be changed.

The tuner and the supply cable can remain in place; you thus save time and money.

The controllers for Icom and Kenwood devices are identical, here the difference is only in the device-specific plug of the control cable.

Setup and commissioning are very simple.

The controller is connected to the transceiver with coaxial cable and control line. It remains close to the transceiver indoors. Another control cable to the tuner is not needed. Controller and tuner in the outdoor area are connected with only one coaxial cable. Ground and antenna are connected to the tuner using wing nuts.

Since the coaxial cable between the tuner and the controller carries current, no other additional devices (SWR/power meter, lightning protection, ...) may be looped in on this section. This would damage the controller.
